Polumbo, 84, of Winter Haven FL, died Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 at Paradise Adult Care Residence due to complications from pneumonia. Born October 18th, 1925 in Huddleston, Virginia, he moved to Winter Haven in 1968 from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska after a 21-year career in the USAF. Harry was a fighter pilot in the Air Force with over 2000 hours including 100 combat missions in the Korean Conflict, achieving the prestigious "Distinguished Flying Cross" during his duty there. After retiring and moving his family to Winter Haven, Harry worked for the state of Florida as an educator. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Bertie Polumbo; son, Paul C. Polumbo; and three sisters, Anne Lohmann, Iva Hancock and Glennie Ashwell. Harry is survived by his wife, Marilyn C. Polumbo; daughter, Susan C. Powell and her husband Cleve; two sons, Brigadier General, USAF, Dennis Polumbo and his wife Sandra (Dryden), Brigadier General, USAF, Robert Polumbo and his wife Claudia; three sisters, Mae Ford, Lettie Pickrell, Rita Bleeker; and eight grandchildren, Allison, Mary, Beth and Emily Powell, Chad and Erik Polumbo, Jake and Zach Polumbo. Viewing on May 27th at 9:00am and a memorial mass at 10:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Chapel, Winter Haven. Graveside service immediately following with military honors at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Auburndale.
