Jan had been arrested by the Gestapo during the night of the 22nd and 23rd March 1943.On the 26th March 1943, in the area of Arsenal in Warsaw his friends Zoska, Alek and their colleagues commanded by Stanislaw Broniewski ('Orsza') delivered Jan and 25 other prisoners from death.
