Mr. Brown was born at the Spring Hill Plantation Home in Virginia, home of his grandfather. He was the last surviving member of his family.
When he was only a few months of age, his parents moved to Mineral Point, Missouri and in 1878, they moved to Young County, Texas settling near Farmer. In 1886, his father bought a farm near Markley. From 1904 until his health failed in 1949, farming was his chief occupation. He often helped his rancher neighbors with their rounding and branding; and rode on the trail of the straying members of the herd. He was a cowboy to the end. In the spring of 1895, Mr. Brown left Clay County with a herd of cattle and headed for the T range in Baylor County.
C.A. Brown married Mary Susan Cruthirds on 24 December 1899 at Fulda, Texas.
Survived by his wife; two children - Robert Brown and Miss Bonnie Brown.
