Amanda Cruthirds (1857-1938)* was born in Jackson County, Mississippi to George Henry Cruthirds (1808-1870+), a native of South Carolina, and Dorcas Scarborough (1817-1870+). She never married and expired at Latimer, Jackson County, Mississippi on December 30, 1938. In 1930, Mandy had been domiciled at the home of Eleanor Cruthirds Scarborough (1855-1931), her sister, and the widow of Joseph J. Scarborough (1849-1928).(1930 Jackson Co., Mississippi R1150, p. 6B, ED 15)
Miss Cruthirds' funeral service was officiated by Reverend Wells with pall bearers as follows: George Cruthirds; Henry Taylor; Robert Harris; Hulbert Harris; Alberry Scarborough (1880-1963); and Edward Scarborough.(The Daily Herald, December 31, 1938, p. 2)
*The birth and death year of Amanda Cruthirds from her obituary and the Bradford-O'Keefe Burial Book do not agree with her tombstone. The author believes that the tombstone is wrong.
