from the Frederick Daily News, May 9, 1885:
We regret to have to report the death at 10:30 a.m. today of Dr. John Schley Goldsborough, of West Patrick street, this city, aged 50 years. The deceased had been suffering from pulmonary consumption during the past three years and had been under the care of Dr. George Johnson. Born in this city in 1835, Dr. Goldsborough chose the medical profession and graduated at the University of Maryland. Becoming disenchanted of his preference, the doctor devoted himself to agricultural pursuits, having ample means for the purpose. On the outbreak of the Civil War he volunteered as a surgeon in the Union army and was actively engaged in hospital work at Harper's Ferry and in this city. When the war came to a close Dr. Goldsborough finally quitted the medical profession, and lived as a gentleman of independent means. He leaves two sons and one daughter. The funeral will take place on Monday next. A.T. Rice and Sons undertakers in charge.
