Birth: Aug. 30, 1820
Death: Sep. 1, 1890

Paymaster General of the United States Navy. He was also a naval veteran of the Civil war assigned to the flagship Richmond and was with her at the attack on the forts at Pensacola Harbor and during the operation which let up to the capture of New Orleans. As Fleet Paymaster he was attached to the flagship San Jacinto of the East Gulf blockading squadron from April to December 1863. From January 1864 to December 1867 he was Inspector of Provisions and Clothing at the Boston Navy Yard, and after a brief term as Purchasing Paymaster at New York he was made Fleet Paymaster of the Asiatic squadron. He filled that post until July of 1869. After that he served at the Boston and New York yards up to March, 1877 when he was made General Inspector of Provisions and Clothing. In November of the same year he was appointed Paymaster General, the equivalent rank of Rear Admiral. He was retired August 20, 1881. (Thank you Saratoga
