Peter A. Hurtz
MIDDLE RIDGE, Wis. - Peter A. Hurtz, 91, of Middle Ridge passed away Friday, March 14, 2003, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse. He was born May 15, 1911, in Odell, Neb., to Jacob and Mary (Schmidt) Hurtz. On Sept. 22, 1937, he was united in marriage to Margaret Bahr at St. Joseph's Ridge Catholic Church.
Peter farmed all of his working life in the Middle Ridge area. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Knights of Middle Ridge, branch 249. He was also the supervisor for the town of Washington for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of 65 1/2 years, his son, Eugene (Rose Ann) Hurtz of Rockland, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Darla (Pat) Lucey of Rockland, Sue Moldenhauer of Cashton, Wis., Kathy (Larry) Servais of La Crosse, Karen (Kevin) Gierszewski of Sparta, Wis., Margie (William) Becker of La Crosse, Richard (Jodi) Hurtz of Broken Arrow, Okla., Kristie (Peter) Hansen of Coon Valley, Wis., and Jennifer (Chris) Paulsen of Cashton; 16 great-grandchildren, Makayla, Megan, Jared, Joshua Lucey, Melissa and Timothy Moldenhauer, Jesse and Beth Servais, Nicholas and Makenzie Becker, Logan and Brooke Hurtz, Hailey, Samantha and Kyle Hansen and Collin Paulsen; two brothers, George Hurtz of Middle Ridge and James (Marie) Hurtz of Cashton; and three sisters, Regina Schomberg of La Crosse, Johanna (Lawrence) Frederick of Cashton and Amanda Whitehead of Red Wing, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 18, 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church at Middle Ridge. The Rev. Robert Altmann will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Monday, March 17, from 5 until 8 p.m., with rosary at 8 p.m. at the St. Peter's Catholic Church. Family and friends also are invited for visitation Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton is assisting the family with arrangements.
