He married Alice Webster June 24, 1880 in Rockland, ME. They had ten children. He tried city life in Boston for a month in the summer of 1886 and worked as a street car conductor. In the fall of 1887 he bought a 27 acre farm in the Pleasantville area of Warren, ME. He was a successful and industrious farmer. He also was a breeder of Maine Coon and Angora cats. He would take his fruits and vegetables from Warren to St. George to sell and bring back seafood to sell in Warren. Later in life he was employed by the Waltham Watch Company as an inspector of jewels.
