Nora was the third of eight children born to Joe C. and Mary Etter (Cravens) Bryant. She also had four siblings from her father's second marriage to Viola Mae Bryant. She had moved to Louisville by the 1940s and was nanny to a family there. My mother and two of her friends moved there in 1945 to work in a munitions factory. They were able to spend some time with Nora while there. She was always a pleasure to visit.
Nora remained single of her own choice.
September 29, 2010 ~ I found the guest book from Nora's funeral which was at 10:00 am July 14, 1971 at Free Union Church. Rev. A. G. Smith and Rev. Roger Popplewell officiated. Pallbearers were Leonard Conover, Oscar Shaw, John Rooks, Ola Bryant and Odis Burton. Rev. and Mrs. Popplewell sang the special song selection. Stotts & Phelps Funeral Home, Columbia, was in charge of the arrangements. The area was very rural back then and really still is today. Only two florists delivered the flowers: Adair Florist, 106 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, and Walker Florist & Gift Shop, 409 Burkesville Street, Columbia. I make note of it only because my mother kept all the sympathy cards from the flowers sent. Both florists were so good to accurately describe the flowers sent that I can imagine the church filled with pink, white, red and yellow glads, mums, roses, and carnations along with a few daisies.
