Irey J. Forakis, age 83, of Heber City, UT, passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Irey was born August 16, 1928 in Altonah, UT to John Petro and Afton Mecham Forakis. He was the third of eight children. He was raised on the Ute Indian Reservation at Fort Duchesne, UT.
He attended Alterra High School, where he was on the football and wrestling teams. Irey served in the U.S. Army during WWII and in the Korean War. On October 16, 1948, he married Fay Horrocks in LaPoint, UT.
He served in the LDS Bishopric in Casper, WY from 1970-1974. In 1974, he was hurt and paralyzed while working for Conoco. He never complained, which made him an extraordinary example of patience and long suffering. Even though paralyzed, it didn't slow him down. . . taking daughters to rodeos, fishing, hunting, camping, and family trips.
He is survived by his endearing wife of sixty-three years, Fay; son, Lynn (Sharon); daughters: Marie (Brent), LaRae (Bill), and Bev (Kevin); three brothers: Petro, Jim, and George; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Elaine and Catherine; and grandson, David Ryan.
He will be truly missed and we look forward to being an eternal family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Charleston LDS Church, 3423 South 3500 West, Charleston. Viewings will be held at the church on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
