Birth: Feb. 4, 1989
Death: Apr. 16, 2009, Iraq

Lance Cpl. Ray A. Spencer II of Ridgecrest, California was a 2006 graduate of Burroughs High School where he was an active and focused member of the school's Junior ROTC program. "Anthony" was a natural leader among the students with a great smile and a great sense of humor that seemed to land him into trouble occasionally. He had dreamed of joining the Marines since he was a little boy and planned to make it a career. So he joined the Marine Corps in June 2006 and reported to Hawaii in January 2007. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Not long before his death, he sent his wife a bouquet of white lilies for Easter. He died at age 20 as a result of a non-hostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq. His father, a Navy veteran, went to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to escort his son's remains back to California.
