Sleepy (Baby) Myers
Sleepy/ Baby/ Sleeper Sofa/ Stinky- she was known by many names here.
I met this big, mellow, lump of cat at my father in laws' house. He lived in eastern Oregon and always kept his back door open.. and the cat just walked in and he, being the big softy he was- started to feed it and he got himself a cat. He called it "Sleepy, Lazy Cat" and the name sure fit.
We figured the cat had been a truckers' and had some how jumped out of the cab and got stuck there. The cat was very relaxed and never moved with "grandma" Katie walked past in her walker. It was very much a mans' cat- it never liked me but could talk it into a nibble of cocktail pepperoni and I snuck it kisses when it graced me with it's attention. I felt so honoured.
When Harvey was called home, the family was trying to decide what to do with this and that and I asked "What about the cat?" - seemed no one had thought that far ahead. Without thinking, I chimed up with " I'LL take the cat". at the time, I already had 4 cats * all females* so this cat was going to upheave the household but I saw a cat in need and that was my focus.
The cat was flopping on the bed and I was "loving on her" and I blew into the fur..HE was a SHE * and thankfully altered*. We'd always assumed Sleepy was a boy as was big and fluffy * she was a Persian/ Munchkin mix- BIG body and little short legs* I renammed her Sleepy Baby as Sleepy Lazy Cat wasn't going to help her self esteem. Her sisters were a bit wary of her but soon she was 1 of the gang - she was the grand old lady at 8 yrs old.
She'd never had other cats to play with so had no idea how to "play" so just looked out windows, wrestled cat nip toys and being left alone. She found her "Inner Diva" when I caught her rubbing her face on a perfume sample strip I had-a PRADA sample, no less. The DIVA had $$ tastes. She loved being dressed up in fancy collars and such. She even had her own tiara !
She figured out "mom" was her hook up for good treats and perfume so I became her go to person when "dad" wasn't cutting it- she knew one look from those weird eyes * one was green the other was green and brown * and I'd cave. I was wrapped around her paw.
I took her to the vets in May '10 when I noticed she was getting thin. She was in the early stage of kidney failure. Not unusual as she was almost 14. She was beginning "the fade" and I was preparing for the next few months. She'd been such a quiet cat *usually* the weight loss was my first clue something was wrong. Took her back to another vet 2 months later and she'd lost 2 more lbs.
We noticed she was fading on saturday but made it through the night but in the morning we knew it was a matter of time. As we were pulling into the vets office, she meowed-turns out, she was saying good bye. I took her out of the crate but she'd gone.
My father in law had passed away on the 16 July '04 so we fingured he came and got her.
We decided then she should be cremated and 1/2 her ashes should rest with my father in law, as that was where she was happiest and he'd love to know his cat was back with him. The other half will rest on a shelf in her sisters bedroom.
Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.
Specifically: 1/2 the ashes will be placed in a place she loved. the other 1/2 will be in her sisters' bedroom
