(C.S.A.) John enlisted as a Private in Company "A", 3rd Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry and rode with John Hunt Morgan. He was captured near Buffington Island, Ohio in 1863. He was paroled at James River, Virginia in March of 1865. He later transfered to the 9th Texas Cavalry. He married Mattie Nance on September 21, 1868 in Dallas County. Mattie was still living in 1917.
