Pepper was the perfect dog for us. She was gentle yet extremely protective. She made us laugh all the time.
She loved to play with those green tennis balls.
One summer I planted a lot of tomato plants. I was in the back yard, watching her play with the tennis balls, but I couldn't figure out how she got so many. She always brought them to us and drop them so we could throw them. This day, she would not bring them close. After a while of watching her throw them up in the air, and grab others, I went to see them. She had picked every green tomato off my plants! Couldn't get mad, she thought the balls grew on vines? Or she just could not help herself.
Just like the time we ordered two large pizzas, a real treat for us. We took one in the living room and was eating it. I went into the kitchen and said to my son and his dad, how could you guys eat this WHOLE pizza? They denied it, then I saw our Pepper lurking away, burping, head down, fat belly and I knew. Yes, she could be very quiet and sneaky and she loved pizza. I still laugh at the thought of that.
After years of loyalty and love, Pepper was feeling pain and was losing weight fast. We knew the time had come, not sure why, but she had a long and happy life with us. We bought her three little steaks. The night before we took her to the vet we grilled her two of them and she ate them off the fork. The morning before her last ride to the vet, we grilled her the last steak. She loved our BBQ's, we never left her out. My son held her head and I was holding her back feet when the vet gave Pepper her last shot. It was a sad day, but we have such fun memories of her.
