Husband of Martha Carson Brandon (married 11/25/1832 in Tennessee). He arrived in Tampa by covered wagon from Mississippi in 1857 and acquired the land that was later to become the city of Brandon, FL.
After the death of his first wife in 1867, he moved away and remarried Victoria Vern in 1868. She was a widow with two children by a previous marriage. He moved back to New Hope (Brandon) in 1874 and donated the land for New Hope Cemetery, as well as helping to start Brandon's first school.
The city of Brandon, FL is named for him.
