Major League Baseball Player. He played for five teams in thirteen seasons in the major leagues, mostly at third base and outfield, but he was a multi-position player at other infield positions too. Johnston spent the majority of his career with the Brooklyn Robins (1916 to 1925) and split his last year (1926) in the majors with the Boston Braves and New York Giants. In 5,070 career at bats (in 1,272 games) he hit a respectable .294 with 410 runs batted in. He had 169 stolen bases.
