Mrs. J.B. Allen, one of the longest time residents of this part of Miller County, died at her home in Eldon Friday morning.
Mary Jane Russell, daughter of Mayfield and Louise Russell, was born March 31, 1850 and was married to Joseph B. Allen July 17, 1864. To them ten children were born: Mary Ellen, who preceded her mother in death, W. Elmonte Allen and Elston E. Allen of Los Angeles, Cal., Eudora J. Edwards and Fenton A. Allen of Los Angeles, Bertha L. Rains and E. Morton Allen of Eldon, Sallie E. Barry of Lake view Heights, Ethel B. George of Sterling, Colo., and Fordyce Allen who preceded his mother in death.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her eight children, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Albert Russell of Schell City, Mo., and four sisters, Mrs. I.N. Boyce of Versailles, Mrs. R.B. Snyder of Eldon, Mrs. D.W. Snyder of Dodge City, Kan., and Mrs. Olive White of Eldon.
Mrs. Allen was a good woman whose whole life in this community has left an influence of her character. The reputation that her family bears reflects her Christian living in the home. As long as her health permitted her she was always found ready and willing in any kind of service she might render to the church, to her neighbors and to her family.
She was a charter member of the First Christian Church of Eldon, taking membership there after the Old Salem Church was abandoned.
The funeral was conducted at the First Christian Church of Eldon Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock by the Rev. A.L. Alexander and burial was made at Eldon Cemetery with Phillips Funeral Home service.
