Eldon Advertiser, September 1929
Fordyce Allen, one of the county's most enterprising and honored farmers, came to his death very suddenly Saturday while feeding a silage cutter on his farm near Eldon. It seems that no one knows exactly how the accident happened.
According to a statement made by his father-in-law, C.T. Foote, who was on a load of corn nearby, the silage cutter developed a knock as though something was wrong with the cutter. Mr. Allen accidentally went around the cutter and stooped over the incline as though trying to detect the trouble. When Mr. Foote and others reached him, there was evidence that he had been struck on the side of the head and that he had also caught his arm in the ____ that carries the silage up the elevator into the silo. His arm had severed, but his death came instantaneously by a blow on his head. Mr. Foote said Mr. Allen gasped once after we reached him. A broken casting was found lying near the machine. Some think that this struck him, while others think that he caught his arm in the fan belt and he was jerked against the machine, his head striking the elevator.
He is survived by three brothers, Elmont Allen of the state of California, Elston Allen of Eldon and Morton Allen, a farmer of near Eldon. His wife, who survives him, was reported under the care of a physician as a result of the shock she received when she was told of her husband's death.
Mr. Allen was one of the most widely known farmers of the county and had the confidence and esteem of everyone, and his death is indeed a severe shock to the family and his hometown friends.
