Wenatchee World - May 28, 2009
Esther Wick, of Entiat, died peacefully at Central Washington Hospital on May 25, 2009, at the age of 86. She was born in Waterville on August 13, 1922. During her early years, she lived at Mansfield and Brewster, where she graduated from Brewster High School and married her high school sweetheart, Bert Wick. Following World War II, they settled at Entiat, where she lived for 61 years. Bert and Esther planted an apple and pear orchard and raised six children. Esther was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. She was always known for her work ethic and ability to thin, pick and pack apples as quickly as anyone. Esther donated her time to many community groups and charities and continued to serve on the Entiat Cemetery Board until her death. In earlier years, she never missed a school event or athletic competition that involved one of her six children. She leaves behind a large group of family and friends, who love her dearly.
Esther is survived by her children, Larry of Auburn, Dale (Elaine) of Snohomish, Mark (Ruth) of Springdale, Bruce (Sandy) of Entiat and Julie Pickering (Jeffrey) of Moses Lake; sister, Elma Law Rasmussen (Owen) of Wenatchee; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; plus many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; son, Randy and an infant son, Teddy; daughter-in-law, Barbara Shank Wick; and her brother, Arnold W Gunkel.
She was reluctant to leave this world, but was looking forward to joining her many friends and family, who had gone ahead of her.
A special thanks to the community of Entiat, all of her good friends and to the loving and caring staff and residents at Blossom Valley Assisted Living, where Esther lived the past eight months. The Family also appreciated the care provided by CWH Hospice, who helped to make her last days on earth both comfortable and pleasant.
The family would like to invite all to join them in a Celebration of Esther's Life at the Entiat Friends Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009. In lieu of flowers, please contribute in her name to the Entiat Ambulance Fund, c/o Entiat City Hall, P.O. Box 228, Entiat, WA 98822-0228.
