Percy H. Closson Jr., 80, formerly of Roaring Spring and Huntingdon, died Sunday evening at Altoona Regional Health System, Seventh Avenue Campus (formerly Bon Secours Hospital Campus), after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of Percy Harrison and Grace (Orr) Closson. He married Esther Romaine Jamison on Feb. 14, 1954, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Darrell of Washington, D.C.; four daughters: Donna Closson of Duncansville, Dana Rosser of Hollidaysburg, Danette Locke of Huntingdon and Dawn Walk of Williamsburg; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers: John in New York, George of Altoona and Kenneth and Tom, both of Roaring Spring; and a sister, Dorothy Raber of Duncansville.
Percy was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. He retired in 1994 as a supervisor from Bonney Forge after 20 years of service. He was of the Lutheran faith, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, by the Rev. Gregory P. Harbaugh. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family requests that donations be made for research for a cure for cerebral palsy in memory of Percy.
