SLATERVILLE SPRINGS - Robert G. DeLong, Sr., age 70, of Slaterville Springs, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 14. Born on June 20, 1939, in Ithaca, Bob was the son of the late Freeman "Pete" and Margaret Magnus DeLong. He retired from the Ithaca City School District in 1994 after 28 years of service. Previously he had been employed by Smith Corona, Rocco Lucente and Marvin Nash. On Sept. 26th, 1980, he was married to the former Virginia Barry Keith. He enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling, hunting and trap shooting. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and will be joining Mandee, his chocolate Labrador.
Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia (Ginny) at home, his children, Candy DeLong of Ithaca and Robert (Darla) DeLong, Jr., of Winter Haven, FL; step-children, Brian Keith and Jamie Keith of Ithaca and Scott (Tammy) Keith of Meriden, CT; sisters, Nancy (Ben) Harmon of Cortland and Kathy (John) Turcsik of Groton; half brothers, Donald DeLong of Lansing, Eugene (Karen) DeLong of Florida and William DeLong of Geneva, NY; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins; and a special friend, Donnie Mix.
Services were private with burial in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY. There are no calling hours. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are directed to the American Heart Association, 3500 Winton Place, Suite 4, Rochester, NY 14623. Perkins Funeral Home assisted the family.
