NAPPANEE - Dewey W. Eppley, 79, of 452 N. Main Street, Nappanee, died at 1:01 a.m. Wednesday, April 15th, in Bremen Community Hospital after a short illness. He was born May 23, 1929, in Nappanee, to Waldo and Joy Ruhl Eppley. He was a lifetime Nappanee resident. He graduated from Nappanee High School in 1947 and from Purdue University in 1950.
On November 23, 1950, he married Oma Stookey at North Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Rick (Jackie) Eppley, Dayton, OH. Rick was born in Trieste, Italy, while Dewey was stationed there as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He served in the Army 1951-1953, Steven (Kathy) Eppley, Elkhart, and Terry (Georgie) Eppley, Leesburg; four grandchildren, JoElyn Eppley, Illinois, Stacey (Joe) Alexander, Dayton, OH, Barry (Olivia) Eppley, Warsaw, and Clay Eppley, Leesburg; a great-grandson, Griffin Eppley; and a sister, Ruth Jo Eppley, Nappanee.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Kline.
Mr. Eppley worked as an Electronic Engineer at Bendix for over 25 years. After his retirement there, he taught at Ivy Tech. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Nappanee, where he taught Sunday School. He was also a Bible Study leader. He was an avid reader. Friends may call Friday 4 to 8 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Terry Tyler will officiate. Cremation will follow services and inurnment will be at Union Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church.
