Obit :
Collapsing with a heart attack at Thompson & Franklin st. while walking to work about 6;45A. M. Wednesday May 31, 1939. J. Matthew Heathershaw was 73 and lived at 213 Park Road; died a few minutes later in route to Allen Memorial Hospital in an ambulance.
He resided in Waterloo for the last 28 years and was employed at the time of death as a janitor in several buildings in the 600 block of Lafayette and Waters street.
Although he had complained at intervals recently of pains in his legs, Mr. Heathershaw otherwise had apparently been in good health, his son Hess W. Heathershaw of 2425 Fourth st. East, said. John Matthew Heathershaw was born in
Lincolnshire, England May 4, 1866. The son of William and Charlotte Heathershaw. He came with his parents to the United States in 1868 and the family settled in Darlington, Wisconsin.
When he was a young man his family moved to Bancroft, Iowa and there he married Addie Casler. They moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1911. After working at the Illinois Central shops for about a year, Mr. Heathershaw was employed for many years by Crystal Ice and Fuel Co. and later the Franklin Fuel Co.
His first wife died there April 20, 1913 and later married Mrs. Lily McEnroe, who died there two years ago.
Surviving in addition to Hess W. Heathershaw are two sons, Roy M. Heathershaw of Longmont, CO; and Elwin J. Heathershaw of 318 Edwards Street; a daughter, Mrs. H. E.Griefnow, 2800 fourth street Est; 3 sisters, Mrs. John Bowen, Lewistown, Mt.; Mrs. Henry Thomsen of Brown's valley, Minn. and Mrs. Jane Schmidt 328 Clay Street; two brothers, Bert Heathershaw, Cogswel, ND and William Heathershaw of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; eight grand children; three stepsons; Craig
McEnroe with whom he made his home, Howard McEnroe, Waterloo, and Leo G. McEnroe, 430 Ansborough Ave, Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. Marie Baum a step daughter of 1614 Jefferson Street, Waterloo, Iowa. A daughter Edna and a sister Miss. CoraHeathershaw, both died many years ago in Bancroft, Iowa.
The body was taken to the O'Reefe and Towns funeral home, where services will be conducted at 9;30 A. M. Saturday,burial will be at Bancroft, Iowa.
