LTC Charles Henry "Chad" Buehring
Learn about upgrading this memorial...
Birth: Oct. 6, 1963
Orange
Orange County
Texas, USA
Death: Oct. 26, 2003
Baghdad, Iraq

Army Lt. Col. Buehring was assigned to Army Central Command Headquarters (Forward), Fort McPherson, Georgia. Buehring was in his room when he was fatally injured during a rocket-propelled grenade attack on the Al-Rasheed Hotel. Charles, “Chad”, was a member of Mike Company while at The Citadel. He graduated in 1985 with a bachelor of arts in political science and went on to get his master's in 1994 from Troy State University. Upon his graduation from The Citadel in August 1985, he was commissioned into the Army. His first assignment was as an infantry officer with the 10th Mountain Division in Ft. Drum, N.Y. From there he went to selection with Special Forces where he served in assignments in Southern Africa and Somalia. He commanded the company that trained Special Ops Medics at Ft. Bragg and later transitioned to PSYOPS under Special Warfare at Ft. Bragg. Chad attended the Air Force Command and General Staff College and was assigned to Fort McPherson in Atlanta. Before he started his new job, however, he was sent to Kuwait to support the Iraq invasion. He was Ranger qualified and held the triple canopy of Ranger, Special Forces and Airborne. He directly advised civilian administrator L. Paul Bremer on how the occupation was being received by Iraqis and how to encourage their cooperation. Chad was a man who led by example; he would lead from the front, rather than manage from the rear. He was also very disciplined but underneath that discipline was a very soft twinkle. He would wear ties featuring characters from Dr. Seuss and Looney Tunes. He was tough, but he had a love for children. He was an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 709 of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, both sponsored by his church. Chad is survived by his wife, Alicia, and sons, 12 and 9. His awards include the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
