Born about 1605 (aged about 25 in 1630 [marriage allegation]; deposed aged 62 years in 1667). Skinner from St Lawrence Pountney, London, who came to massachusetts Bay in 1634. First settled in Salem; moved to Boston by 1647.
Buried in Boston, 13 January 1676/7.
MARRIAGES: (1) St John, Hackney, Middlesex, 10 June 1630 Mary Draper. On 8 June 1630 a marriage allegation was entered with the Bishop of London, describing the groom as "William Alford of the parish of St. Stephen Walbrooke, London, skinner & a bachelor, aged about 25 years," and the bride as "Mary Draper of Hackney in the County of Middlesex, maiden, aged about 22 years and at the dispose of George Harwood of London, merchant, her uncle." On the Salem church member list, Mary is annotated later as "dead," indicating that she probably died in the mid-1650s.

On 11 April 1634 Francis Kirby wrote from London to John Winthrop Jr. at Agawam that, "The bearer hereof Mr. William Alford, skinner, is an honest man well known to me and also to Mr. Cotton of Boston. I desire you to be acquainted with him and to show him what kindness you can without prejudice to yourself. He is come with his family to plant amongst you."
