|Birth: ||Mar. 15, 1911|
|Death: ||Aug. 6, 1920|
Berj was born in Chico, California on March 15, 1911.
He was at the Sonoma State Home as it was called back then. It was later called the Sonoma State Hospital and in the mid-1980's was re-named the Sonoma Developmental Center. It is a California State facility and because of it's size, it has it's own police and fire department and it's own city name – Eldridge. He was there for 1 year 4 months and 22 days when he died on August 6, 1920. He died from Chronic Meningitis, Chronic Hydrocephalus and Terminal Bronchopneumonia. He was laid to rest in the Sonoma State Home Cemetery on August 7, 1920, and is in Row 19, Grave Number 45, approximately 139 feet from the #19 row marker.
There are no headstones to mark the graves. There are no imbedded vases to put flowers in. There are essentially no remembrances of the many lives laid to rest in this area. There is only green grass, shade from the large oak trees and thoughts. There is one area in a small grove of trees where there is a concrete wall with two plaques of "in memory" information and a concrete bench and a small statue.
