Jeremy Alan Barkann, 78, died on Monday at his residence with his family around him.

Funeral services are on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Goldstein Funeral Chapel, 2015 Woodbridge Ave., Edison. Burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus. The period of mourning will be observed at the Barkann residence in Princeton on Thursday after 7 p.m.

Born in Jersey City to Dr. Milton D. Barkann and Dorothy Romm Barkann, Mr. Barkann was a former resident of East Brunswick. He was a graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy and Syracuse University.

The majority of Mr. Barkann's professional career was spent in automotive advertising. His last position was as senior vice president of Deutsch Advertising in New York City. Previously, he was involved in the start-up of USA Today as marketing manager for automobile and travel. He was senior vice president, management supervisor at Doyle, Dane, Bernbach Inc. Mr. Barkann was also a radio announcer at WBOS Boston, a marathon runner and former member of International Motor Press.

Mr. Barkann served proudly as a captain in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Wagman Barkann; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Ellen Barkann of Newtown Square, Pa., and Peter and Kathleen Barkann of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a daughter, Susan G. Barkann of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Romina Gray of Boothwyn, Pa., and three grandchildren, Emily, Matthew and Phoebe.
