WILLIAM T. BAXTER - MAY 29, 1959 -- MAY 13, 2005
William T. Baxter died Friday in Olean General Hospital after a long illness. He was 45.
Born in Slaton, Texas, he moved to the Buffalo area as a child. He was a 1967 graduate of Grover-Cleveland High School.
Mr. Baxter served in the Marines from 1967 to 1970 and did two tours in Vietnam.
After the war, he worked in several jobs in Buffalo before going to work at American Brass as a caster in 1980, retiring in 1999 because of illness.
He and his family moved to Olean from Buffalo in 1990.
Mr. Baxter was a former member of the Weston Mills Fire Department, a member of Allegany Post 892, American Legion, and the Olean YMCA. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking and painting ceramics.
He formerly was married to Josephine A. Albi. He married Jacquelyn Young in Portville in 1994.
Besides his wife, survivors include five daughters, Ann Marie M. Grabitt of Weston Mills, JoAnne L. Baker of Portville, Christian M. Schrecengost and Beth A. Moser, both of Buffalo, and Jennifer L. Bowen of Bolivar; a son, Darren R. Parwulski of Buffalo; three sisters, Alice Wierzbowski of Cheektowaga, Helana Ramos of Buffalo and Margaret of Florida; and 17 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, 646 E. State St. Burial will be in the Veterans Field of Honor in Mount View Cemetery.
