Nora Vail was born in New York City. Her parents, Mary Kennedy and Frank Veale, were born in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland. She was baptized at St. Cecilia's Church but later lived on West 50th Street in Sacred Heart Parish. In 1916 she married a local man named William Beyer, the son of German immigrants. They had three children: Mary, Buddy and Eddie (Bro. Edward T Beyer).
One of her first jobs was with the New York Telephone Company. Later she worked for the maintenance department of the Long Island Railroad. After retiring from the Long Island Railroad, she worked in the Housekeeping Department of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. When she was in her 70s, she made her first airplane trip when she took a tour of Ireland. A year or so later, she traveled again to Ireland, Italy and Switzerland with her son Brother Beyer. After retiring from Lincoln Center at age 80 she moved to the Hallandale area of Florida. In 1984 she returned to the New York area, living at the St. Ambrose Home in Oradell, New Jersey. She died in August 1984 from a fall.
She has six grandchildren: Eddie, Carole and Susan Beyer; and Kathy Lennon (Jim), Philip and Dennis Keane. Her great grandchildren are Mary Beyer, Diane Beyer Hughes and Katie Beyer; Colleen and Erin Keane; Kevan, Bryan and Karyn Keane. She now has a great grandchild: Jasmine Nancy Beyer Hughes.
