Wesley W. Goetz was the son of William H. Goetz and Ada Victoria Hake. His paternal grandparents were William Harrison Hake and Catherine Hake.

Wesley first married Ardath Esther Sells on 6 December 1930 in Keokuk, Iowa. They divorced in 1948. Wesley and Ardath had no children.

Ardath was born on 17 May 1911 in Basco, Illinois. She was the daughter of James G. Sells and Josephine M. O'Haver. Ardath later married Homer Eugene Jackson on 17 August 1961 in Clark County, Nevada. Ardath died on 28 May 1978 in Ventura County, California.

In 1920 and 1930 Wesley lived with his parents in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In 1940 Wesley and Ardath lived in Brookfield Township, Wisconsin. Wesley was farming.

Wesley then married Ethel. She was born on 3 November 1906 and died on 10 May 1998. At the time of her death she resided in Watertown, Codington County, South Dakota.

At the time of his death Wesley resided in Jackson, Teton County, Wyoming. Wesley was killed while on duty for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. His duty station was at the National Elk Refuge, in Wyoming.
