SUNRAY - Thelma Catherine Eubank, 97, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Sunray Church of Christ with Jim York, minister of Stinnett Church of Christ, officiating, and Shawn Davis, minister of Sunray Church of Christ, and Dennis Cady of Wichita Falls assisting. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Eubank was born April 17, 1909, in a dugout in Hansford County to Andrew G. and Laura C. Barnes Browder. She was married to Beebe Eubank from October 1923 to 1951. They farmed in Texas north of Sunray. In the 1930s they homesteaded 160 acres of land in New Mexico.
In 1951, Mrs. Eubank moved to Pontiac, Mich., where she attended business college. Upon the completion of her studies, she worked as a secretary for Motor Car Transport Co. for 10 years. Mrs. Eubank then decided to do mission work for the Church of Christ.
In 1962, Mrs. Eubank went to Southeast Asia for 14 years as a missionary, serving in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. When she returned to the states in 1976, she retired to Sunray. She was a member of Sunray Church of Christ, where she taught a ladies class for many years. She worked as a "Grandmother Volunteer" for Sunray Elementary School in the VIPS program (Volunteers in Public Schools), where Mrs. Eubank read stories to students, and in turn, they read stories to her. Mrs. Eubank also worked with Meals on Wheels until her health prohibited her from working.
"Her children rise up and call her blessed." (Proverbs 31:28a) Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Laura Browder; three brothers, William Luther Browder, Andrew Wesley Browder and Roy Wood Browder; a sister, Julia Helen Sparks; a daughter, Thelma Hazell McRae; two sons, Dudley Luther Eubank and Roy Wesley Eubank; a son-in-law, Joe Crenshaw; and two granddaughters, Jean Crenshaw and Shannon Eubank.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Loye McRae of Sunray; Gwin and Paul Barnum of Sebring, Fla.; Betty Crenshaw of Sunray; and Andrew and Wilma Eubank of Canadian. She was blessed with 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren who will miss her. She is also survived by her church family and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118.
