SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
Thomas Bean was the son of Edward F. and Nancy (Elliott) Bean. He was born January 17, 1875 in Latah, County, Idaho.
Enlisted June 21, 1898 in Waterville, Washington. Served in Company "D", Independent Battalion of Washington Infantry. Discharged as private on October 28, 1998 at Vancouver Barracks, Washington. A pension was awarded on Certificate No. 2,308,205.
His wife, Viola Jane (Harman) Bean, died December 26, 1927 in Chopaka, Okanogan County, Washington. They had married June 20, 1906.
At age 65, Mr. Bean applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil. He declared he had lived continuously in Washington state since 1902; residing in the community of Night Hawk from 1902 to 1906; in Chopaka from 1906 to 1938, and Oroville from 1938 to 1940.
He died at Retsil on November 21, 1942 at the age of 67 years. His next of kin were Mr. Harry Bean (brother) of Longview, Washington; Mr. Richard Bean of St. John's, Washington, and Mr. C. Miles. A sister, Mrs. Minnie Gillam, lived in Oakland, California.
