SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
William B. Calhoun was the son of James Calhoun, born near Buffalo, New York; and Sarah Powell, born in England. He was married on March 3, 1902 to Margaret.
Enlisted May 12, 1898; assigned to Troop F, 3rd U. S. Volunteer Calvary; discharged Sept. 8, 1898 at Camp Thomas on discharge of regiment. His rank was Private. He received a pension of $75.00 a month.
He was a resident of the state since Jan. 25, 1925 and lived in Seattle with his wife when he applied for residency at Retsil. He was born Oct. 11, 1877 in Salt Lake City, Utah, was a white male, 5 foot, 5 3/4 inches tall, with light complexion.
He was approved for admission to the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil on February 26, 1945. He died there on March 28, 1948 of coronary thrombosis. He is buried at the Veterans Home Cemetery. [source: www.digitalarchives.wa.gov]
