Camden November 14 1924 – At his home on Union Street, Friday evening at 11:30, occurred the death of John C. Chase, an old and respected citizen, and member of J. Person Stone Post G.A.R. Mr Chase was born in West Leyden on April 9 1839 and when 9 years old went with his parents to Florence. As a young man he worked with his father as an undertaker and carpenter and made chairs and coffins. Later he became a farmer.
September 1, 1862, Mr. Chase enlisted at New York in Company A 10 Regiment New York Light Artillery, but afterwards was transferred to the heavy artillery. He was mustered out in 1865 at the close of the war.
He was married three times, his first wife being Mary Congdon. His second wife was Isabel Coop, who lived only a short time. Forty-five years ago he married Miss Luella Kenfield of Florence who survives. The family moved to Camden about 10 years ago. Besides his wife, he leaves six daughters and one son. Minnie, Mrs. Fred M. Pease of Rockville, Conn.; Belle, Mrs F.G. Balcum of Camden; Marguerite, Mrs. William R. Finch of Florence; Miss Florence E. Odell of Camden who is a trained nurse and is in the State College in Albany taking a course in Pharmacy; Louise, Mrs. R.G. Darrow of Rome; Mildred, Mrs. Thomas A. Cavanaugh of Rome and Dr. Charles E. Chase of Cincinnati.
In this vicinity Mr. Chase leaves four grandchildren Evelyn Balcum of Camden, Carl and Clifford Finch of Florence; and George Darrow of Rome. Living in Connecticut are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held privately at the home on Union Street Tuesday at 1(2?):00 o'clock. The Rev. N.A. Darling will officiate and burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Camden, Nov. The funeral of Comrade John C. Chase was held at his late home on Union Street, Tuesday at 2 o'clock, the Rev N. A. Darling of the M.E. Church officiating. There were no flowers and no singing as Mr Chase had requested that there be none.
The bearers were William R Finch, Edward Balcum, Robert J. Darrow and Thomas Cavanaugh, sons-in-law. The few remaining members of J Parsons Post G.A.R. attended in a body and conducted their service. Burial was made in Forest Park Cemetery.
