Barbara Jane Poole Fowers Pendlebury, age 89, died on June 25, 2011, at home in Blackfoot following a lingering illness.
She was born on May 16, 1922, in Rexburg, the daughter of Leslie E. and Leona Hoopes Poole. She attended two years of elementary school in Rexburg, then finished her education in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1940. She also attended the University of Idaho. She cherished the memories of the years she spent with her beloved grandparents in Rexburg, and had many friends throughout her life who touched her deeply.
Barbara married Thurston E. Fowers of Shelley on July 3, 1942, in Dillon, Mont. The couple resided in Shelley until 1972 when they moved to Ogden, Utah. Mr. Fowers passed away in 1983.
She married Vincent R. Pendlebury, a long-time resident of Blackfoot, on Sept. 29, 1984. He passed away in 1993.
Barbara belonged to the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority in Idaho Falls, serving as chapter president in 1960.
She was a member of the Catholic Church, attended St. Joseph's Parish in Ogden, and served as president of St. Bridget's Guild of the Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the DOES in the Ogden and Blackfoot Droves.
Barbara had many talents and hobbies. She was an accomplished knitter and turned that gift into profit when she opened the Yarn Barn in Idaho Falls in 1963. She utilized her skill as a seamstress as a drapery maker for over 10 years. Barbara was an avid reader throughout her life. She also had a vast knowledge of precious and semi-precious gemstones.
Barbara is survived by her four children and 14 grandchildren, Gerald William Fowers, Ogden, Utah; Leslie Poole (Kathleen) Fowers, Boise, and their children - Tamara, Rhonda, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Laura, Jason, Lisa, and Ann Marie; Barbara Fowers King, Blackfoot and her children David and James; Charles Richard (Janece) Fowers, Blackfoot and their children, Amy, Trent, Derek and Chad. She is also survived by 37 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Grandma Bounce"; a brother, Bert L. Poole, Boise; and one stepbrother, Lynn Stewart of Idaho Falls.
Barbara's family would like to thank Aspen Home Health Care & Hospice and Heartwork Connections for the kind and tender care given to their mother during her illness, particularly thanking Bobbie, Robin, Pat, Selize, Jessie, and Deedie.
A DOES tribute followed by a Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot. Visitation will follow the rosary until 8 p.m. that evening.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
