Birth: May 31, 1795
Death: Dec. 25, 1865

In December of 1818, on the hilltop above the present Exeter,
Pike County, Illinois, overlooking the valley of the Mauvaisterre, near
the spot where now stands a stone that marks his grave, the pioneer
Alexander BEALL, is said to to have paused and looked out over the
valley dotted then with the wigwams of the Indians. As he looked, he made
a prophecy to his companion, a man by the name of COWHICK, "We are
looking at something that shall vanish; those who follow us in a few years
will not see what we see; something new is about to happen around us."
On 3 Dec 1818 the President by his signature of the act of admission
made Illinois Territory a state.
