William was the first-born son of Elihu Hunt and Lydia Cummins. As a boy his family moved first to Mattoon IL, then to near Tuscola in Douglas Co, in the Mt. Gilead area.
William married Levina Cummins on September 17 1874 in Hindsboro IL. He operated a brick yard during those years.
Levina died tragically of an errant bullet fired by a hunter in the woods where they lived. She was ironing on the back porch when the accident occurred.
Together William and Levina had eleven children:
