Alva L. Karlstrom, 87, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday Dec.6, 2001 at Freeman Hospital East, following a long illness. Mr karlstrom was born January 26, 1914, In Joplin, to John and Grace Karlstrom, and had lived in Joplin all his life. He graduated from Joplin High School.
Mr Karlstrom was employed by the Joplin Water Co. for over 36 years, and retired in 1971. He was a high service operator. He was a member and ordained Deacon of the Community of Christ Church (RLDS).
He married Vera A. Holmes on June 29,1947 in Joplin. She survives. Also surviving are four nieces and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Geneva Yocum.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Community oc Christ Church, 1212 Goetz, Lester lay, minister, will officiate. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Internment will be at the Osark Memoria Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.

Alva was a very shy man but he was devoted to Vera, his family and his church. They both devoted their lives to helping others. He owned only three cars in his lifetime, all Plymouths and never drove them over 50 miles per hour.
