Elisha Edward Love, known by family & friends as Taylor, was the 5th of William and Hettie (Williams) Love's children. His siblings were: George Thomas, Mose, Jack, Samuel William, Rosa Belle, Robert Lee, Jesse James, and Emma.
His parents moved to Old Wilson, I.T. from Gordonsville, Grayson Co, TX, when he was about six or seven years old. It is said that his father didn't want to settle in the Oklahoma City area, because he didn't feel like the land would ever be worth much.
Elisha married Jessie Ellen Morrison. They had five children: Vera, Edward, Theodore "Chief," Teresa, & Inah.
On June 5, 1917, Elisha, age 30, registered for the draft during WWI in Ardmore. His date of birth was March 15, 1887. He was working on a farm for J.C. Cox. He had a wife and 5 children. His physical description was medium height, slender build, blue eyes, and light brown hair. His signature was shown as Elisha Edward Love.
Elisha worked as a Section Hand for the Santa Fe Railroad. He and Jessie were living at 249 Third Ave NE, when he was fatally injured in an accident on September 14, 1944 (described in the newspaper below). He was taken to the Hardy Sanitarium where he died from a brain concussion. He had lived for 57 years, 5 months, and 27 days. His funeral was held at Legate Cemetery on September 15, 1944, at 4:00 p.m.
"INJURIES FATAL TO ELISHA LOVE
Injuries received early Wednesday when the motor hand car on which he was riding with 19 other railroad workers collided with the rear of an O.G. and E. service truck caused the death of Elisha Edward Love, 57, railroad worker, on Wednesday afternoon. Death was due to shock and to back injuries, it was said. Six other workers were less seriously hurt in the accident. Love's death was the first traffic fatality in Ardmore since Aug. 3.
Services have been arranged for 4 p.m. Friday at Legate cemetery for Love, Harvey funeral home announced. Love resided at 249 Third Avenue Northeast. He is survived by his wife, Jesse, his mother, Mrs. Hettie Love; three brothers, Jack, Mose and George, and the following children: Mrs. Inah Pelton, Mrs. Vera Blanton, Mrs. Theresa Scott, Ed and Chief, all of Ardmore."
