"Etta Rachel Gilliam Services for Etta Rachel Gilliam are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Val Wheelwright officiating.Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
She was born June 13, 1921 to Mose and Mary Barthenia Love at Provence. She passed this life on July 13, 2007 in a local hospital.
She and Kenneth Gilliam were married Aug. 13, 1974 in Ardmore. Most of her 86 years she lived within one mile of where she was born. Etta graduated from Dickson High School where she was a talented softball player. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She worked many years as a skilled lacer of leather goods with Western Leather and JoKay Leather. Etta and her husband, Kenneth Gilliam, raised cattle and quarter horses and harvested pecans on their land.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her parents, four brothers, John Love, Joyce Love, Tommy Love and Colbert Love, and two sisters, Ella Mae Hawley and Doris Vieroski.
Etta lived by the traditional family values and beliefs of her parents and grandparents and taught her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the same. Her family was the joy of her life. She was fun-loving and had a great sense of humor. Etta was talented in various forms, such as sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening, cooking and baking.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Shuman and son-in-law Anson, Ardmore; a son, Douglas LaFontain and daughter-in-law, Sharon, Duncan; grandchildren, Tammy Rachel and Michael Thomas, Ardmore, Steve and Alice Shuman, and Lynn and Victor Galvan, all of Dallas, Michelle LaFontain, San Antonio, and Darby LaFontain and John Paul Tidwell, Duncan; great-grandchildren, Steven Michael Thomas and Eric Joe Thomas, Ardmore, Aeryn Rachel Shuman and Selena Galvan, Dallas, and John Riley Tidwell, Duncan; and many nieces and nephews.
Bearers are Anson Shuman, Steve Shuman, Michael Thomas, Randy Love, Calvin Love and Herbert Wayne Belt."
