Mr. Boast appeared as a character in several of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. He met the Ingalls family in 1879 when he and Charles Ingalls worked on the railroad together, and both families eventually settled in DeSmet, South Dakota. Born in Canada, Boast traveled to Iowa at the age of 19 where he started farming and met his future wife, Ella Rosina Peck. Mr. Boast and his wife Ella had no children of their own.
