Melvin Henry Nifong, 31, died Sunday, December 4, at Lewiston, Idaho, where he had been ill for ten months at the home of his sister, Mrs. Lawrence Lacey.
Melvin Nifong was born October 9, 1918, at Gifford, Idaho, to Verna and T.M. Nifong. He moved to Waitsburg whith his parent in 1929 where he made his home until his illness. He was a graduate of Waitsburg high school, and was married to Miss Thelma Webber on March 3, 1945. He worked in the Bremerton shipyards for three years during the war, and had worked in Waitsburg as a carpenter for two years.
Services were held Wednesday, December 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist church with Rev. Burton Stewart of the Waitsburg Nazarene church officiating, with Rev. R.E. Roach assisting. Interment was in the Waitsburg city cemetery.
Pallbearers were Claude Lacey, Riley Wise, Wayne Hinchliffe, Jack West, Lewis Dunn and Donald Hinchliffe. Music was furnished by Orville Fullerton and Rev. R.E. Roach, duet, with Marvelene Roach at the organ.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma at Waitsburg; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Nifong, also of Waitsburg; a brother, Lt. Cmdr. James M. Nifong, Calif., a half-brother, Lloyd W. Campbell, Boise; two sisters, Mrs. C. P. Juptner, Bremerton and Mrs. L.E. Lacey, Lewiston. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 26 of Walla Walla.
