Gunner, a reservist with The Bytown Gunners, 30th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery based in Ottawa. She was killed and four other soldiers injured during a training exercise at CFB Petawawa. Their army truck was pulling a large artillery gun when it rolled over.
Aged 19, Gunner Keyes-Oliver was born in Cambridge, Ontario and attended school in Kitchener. She was a sea cadet at #94 Warspite in Kitchener. She joined the army reserves in March 2006 with the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada in Cambridge and then served with 11th Field Regiment RCA in Guelph. Recently she transferred to the 30th Regiment and moved to Ottawa to study public affairs and policy management at Carleton University. Her family described Arielle as a natural leader who was concerned with everyone she came in contact with. Her interests included kickboxing, horseback riding and playing the drums, piano, and trumpet. After university, she wanted to travel the world and work internationally.
She is survived by her parents Diane and David, sister Tressa, grandparents, boyfriend Antoine, extended family and friends. Funeral service held at Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
