Doris O. Turnbaugh 83 of Richmond died September 15, 2010 at Friends Fellowship Community. She was born February 15, 1927 in Indianapolis to Robert and Doris Stroud Ditrich and lived in Richmond most of her life.
Doris was an artist, studying art at John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, with additional training at Earlham College, Indiana University, and Miami University of Ohio.
As part of her training, Doris has participated in numerous workshops with nationally known artists in the United States, England, and Norway.
She painted in all media, with her preference being Watercolor. She usually painted on location, with her subject matter derived from her love of the outdoors and animals.
Doris has won several awards for her art work, and is recognized widely for her talent. She was a member of the Richmond Art Museum, the Hoosier Salon, the Indiana Artist Club, Richmond Art Club, Pastel Society of America, Pen Women of America, and a Cardinal Member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, P.E.O., and active in several community organizations and activities.
Survivors include her children Mark (Julie) Jones of Louisville, Kentucky, Cathy Kiepert of West Concord Massachusetts, Nancy (Mike) Brown of Reno, Nevada, and Paula Kolentus of Richmond, her step son Jack Turnbaugh Jr. of Florida, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Her first husband Robert V. Jones died in 1969, her second husband Jack Turnbaugh Sr. died in 2002. Also deceased are one son William Robert Jones, and her parents.
Funeral services will be private with Rev. Eldon Harzman and Rev. Scott Bell officiating. Friends may call 4-7 PM Monday September 20, 2010 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery.
