Noted artist and father of artists William Eyden, Jr. and Walter Eyden. His family emigrated from Germany, arriving in New York on on July, 13 1868 with his mother Doris Eyden and siblings Helene, Johanna, and Johanne. Eyden was an early and prominent member of the Richmond Group of artists and a founding member of the Art Association of Richmond (now the Richmond Art Museum). His work is found in the permanent collections of the Indiana State Museum, Richmond Art Museum and many other private and public collections. Most biographies list his birth date as 1859, although his stone says 1860. He is also sometimes incorrectly referred to as "William T. Eyden."
