Civil War Service - He enlisted Aug 23 1861, age 21 for 3 years. He mustered as a Private in Batty E, Ohio 1st LA Batty E Light Artillery Brigade on 07 Oct 1861 at Camp Dennison. He mustered out on 18 Jun 1862 at Fayetteville, TN. on surgeon's certificate of disability.
He enlisted Aug 16 1863, age 23 for 3 years. He mustered as a Private in Company F, Ohio 9th Cavalry Regiment on 18 Sep 1863 at Camp Dennison, Ohio. He was appointed Corporal (no date) He mustered out with the unit on 20 Jul 1865 at Lexington, NC. (he gave a false age both enlistments). He filed for an invalid's pension on Jul 23 1887 which was approved - Cert # 817011. Service in Battery E 1st Ohio Lt. Art. & Co F 9th Ohio Cav are listed

He married Harriett L Lyman on Oct 16 1867 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan. They had a son and an adopted daughter.

He was a carpenter in Franklin Twp, Ohio except for 1900 when he was a farmer in Michigan.

Mother: Betsey born 1811 in New York,died after 1880 census.

Son: Afton L. Atkins born 27 August 1873,Ohio.Died 26 July 1947, Ohio.

Daughter: Agnese/Agnes (Atkins) Davey born 3 Feb. 1884,Ohio.Died 10 August 1965,Santa Cruz,California.
Wife of Wellington E. Davey,31 August 1882-22 May 1947.
