Birth: Jan. 25, 1922
Death: Jul. 1, 2008

Leo E. Bollman, 86, Monona, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Veteran's Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa, following a sudden illness. Leo was born on January 25, 1922, rural Luana, Iowa, to Ira Sankey and Edna Mae (Perkins) Bollman. He attended Smithfield Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Luana High School.

Leo entered civilian pilot training in the spring of 1942 and then the Army Air Corps. His desire was to become a glider pilot at Lubbock, TX. Unfortunately the school closed and Leo became a radio operator, getting his radio and gunnery training at Sioux Falls, SD. He, along with some of the other boys were put on the reserve glider pilot list and were authorized to wear their glider pilot wings. Leo flew as radioman belly gunner in a B-17.

Leo was united in marriage to Marjorie Ann Lange on September 4, 1947. Three children were born to this union. Leo was a longtime businessman in Monona. He ran the Shell Station and Sinclair Oil Station for over thirty years. He was an avid tree planter and his passion was trout fishing. Leo loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his three children, Daniel (Carolyn) Bollman, Fairbanks, AK, Roger (Dorene) Bollman, LeClaire, Brenda Bostrom, Vancouver, WA and two grandchildren, Erin Ann Bollman and Alexander Bostrom.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie, on May 30, 1997; two sisters, Leatrice Sharp and Helen Price and four brothers, Clyde, Donald, Avery and Everett.
Leo was a special person to all who knew him, he never bragged and would not talk about his war time service for which he received the purple heart and bronze star . He will be remembered with much love. We will miss you Uncle Leo. I will miss you so very much, you were there for me when I just needed someone. I will miss your calls and visits.
