Russell Eugene Hunnicutt, 73, passed away at 10:52 a.m. July 7, 2009 in Marion General Hospital. He was born on Aug. 15, 1935 in Montpelier to the late Russell and Delores (Glasscock) Hunnicutt.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Lucy Lynn; sister, Mary Ann (Wayne) Jackson; sons, Derrick Livesay, Shawn Livesay, Dean Hunnicutt; daughter, Sherry (Seth) Jones; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Russell grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Jackson Center Wells County in 1954, later attending Indiana Wesleyan University. He was a man that believed in honest, hard work. He was employed at General Tire from 1954 to 1970. His true calling was serving as a police officer and he joined the Marion Police Department in 1970, retiring in 1999. He served as a patrolman, corporal, and sergeant. He also was a shooting range instructor for many years with the Marion Police Department. He was a security guard at Marion High School from 1971 to 1997.

He was an avid gun collector and won numerous shooting competitions. He owned and operated "The Powder Keg" business. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and started a junior NRA club with the Marion PAL Club. In 1998, he ran for the position of the Grant County Sheriff. Russell was proud to serve Marion as a police officer, he loved his work and thought highly of all his fellow officers.

Russell had a loving relationship with God and enjoyed attending Jalapa Chapel Church. Russell loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 in Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion with the Rev. Mick Wilson, Pastor Shaffer and Mark Bardsley officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park, Marion.

Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009 in the funeral home.
