Mrs. Eva Burley Coachman died after a long illness on Thursday, December 7, 2006.
Mrs. Coachman was born June 8, 1914. She was the first born of Helen Burley Tyree. She was raised in Stony Point Virginia, Albemarle County. She moved to Washington D.C. as a young woman in the 1930's. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from D.C. Teacher's College in the 1940's. She later received her Master's Degree from New York University in 1961.
She taught school in Maryland State. She was a Master Teacher at Bowie State College in the 1960's. She conducted a teaching laboratory in Elementary Education at the college and trained students in the art and skill of Elementary Education Teaching. She later became involved in the Montgomery County School system in Maryland and taught 1st grade. Her skills as a teacher were recognized by the county as exceptional and earned several awards for her abilities.
In 1965, she retired from the Montgomery County Schools and moved to Absecon N.J. She continued her teaching profession as well as becoming involved in many community activities. Her involvements included her interest in music and choral societies in south New Jersey, the Democratic Club and her church. She was closely involved in her church in New Jersey. She loved music and was well involved in various chorals in the south New Jersey community. In the 1990's, she ran in the Mrs. Senior New Jersey contest. She won 1st place in the Atlantic Regiontal contest of New Jersey. She was a runner up in the State contest for Mrs. Senior New Jersey. She remained active in the community until declining health in 2004. She moved to live with relatives in Maryland after her 90th birthday that June. Her health further declined and she entered a nursing home in late 2005.
Mrs. Eva B. Coachman was a person who had a beautiful spirit and strived to be her best self. She always worked towards excellence. She loved nature, home and her garden. Her gentle spirit and love of life and nature will be missed. She is survived by many cousins.
