Civil War Union soldier. He first served as a Private in the 4th Regiment, Company E of the Militia of 1862, enrolling on September 11 and discharged on September 25. He later served in Company M of the 12th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers Cavalry, enrolling and mustering in as a Private at Martinsburg, Va., on February 29, 1864, for a term of three years. He mustered out with his Company on July 20, 1865. He later served in the Veterans Reserve Corps. He worked as a blacksmith. (Also spelled Bannon and Banan.)
